On Saturday 26 July, the sun shone and St Austell played host to celebrities, namely Robbie Williams Tribute Matt Holbrook and Fifi Forget-Me-Not. Flava as recently seen on Britain’s Got Talent and Shane Solomon were also on hand to give the day that extra local celebrity feel.
The town centre came alive with music from artists performing on the CD being launched today, St Austell Drumba Samba, Didgeridoo and exhibits by Screech Owl and Gills and Geckos Exotic Pets. In the Cornerstones Community Centre during the morning, there was a 5ft chocolate fountain, stalls, Clarins offering mini pamper treatments, and Indian Head Massage too. Street stalls, face painting, hair braiding, balloon modelling and the opportunity to sit in a fire engine ensured families were kept entertained. In the afternoon Cornerstones Community Centre was turned into Fifi’s garden for the Fifi Tea Party, with children’s entertainment.
The whole town was buzzing with excitement with crowds of children filling the streets excited at the prospect of meeting Fifi and Mums and traders dancing away to the Robbie Williams Tribute.
A purpose-built staging area in the form of a 20ft truck was kindly donated by Driveline and erected at Market Street which served as the stage for all the entertainment.
The whole day was a great success, comments received from one stall holder “it was great to St Austell buzzing again”. Traders’ comments were also well received with staff from Alliance and Leicester providing drinks to those stall holders sweltering in the heat.
Thanks should be given to Restormel Borough Council for allowing free parking on the day, Driveline for donating the staging area, Restormel Arts for the loan of the back drop, to Hop ‘n Vine and the Market House for allowing the charity to use the area outside, Warrens Bakery for the donation of flower biscuits, local businesses for the donation of raffle prizes and Go-Jute. Also thanks to Co-op, Tesco, Barnecutts, Bookers and Boomerang Birthdays for donations towards the Fifi Tea Party. Also special thanks to those volunteers who gave up their time to come and in help throughout the day.
